Performance review is a really important action taken by management to evaluate the company’s results and also for employees to learn where they are performing as expected and where they need improvement (Wilbanks, 2011). In my line of work it is really important to communicate your opinions openly and make sure that you have your voice heard. We are always looking for new projects so every different point of view on a project or in any matter is valuable as the company needs to understand what are the different perspectives to make the most appropriate assessment about what can bring positive results to the company. I believe I need to be better at vocalizing my opinions, even if I think my position is low in the department. Having your voice heard regardless of your position is a good way to show you’re interested in growing with the company.

A quarterly performance review with a manager can be very helpful for both sides. I appreciate open conversations with my supervisor to learn what they are expecting and how my performance has changed over the months. Having more than one conversation a year can help both parties understand if there has been progress and where more work needs to be done. A lot of the times management does one performance review and forgets to follow up, which becomes a waste of everyone’s time.
