Poor Information Systems in Acute Care

Acute care is a branch of healthcare provision that deals with delivering short term but active and very crucial treatment for a severe illness or an injury. In the recent week, the acute care department was tasked with the duty of receiving accident victims who were in critical condition and needed immediate medical attention to be stabilized (Marschall et al., 2014). Medical practitioners specialized in different fields deliver health care services in the acute care setting.

 It is essential to have a perfect information system for faster and efficient communication which helps reduce confusion and avoid errors. The main problem experienced by acute health care services providers is poor information system. First, notification that an accident had occurred reached the healthcare facility a little bit late (Guha & Kumar, 2017). It was only by chance that some of the accident victims were brought in still in manageable conditions.

One individual lost his life while on the way to the hospital. After acute care of the survived patients and their conditions stabilized, there was also confusion in shifting them to other advanced care units (Laudon & Laudon, 2015). There was a claim that no communication had been made about the new patients to expect and therefore the facilities had not been prepared. Help had to be sought from the nearest health care practices where the patients had to be transported for advanced health care services. It was a risky occasion since the patients were exposed to a lot of danger during transportation from one medical firm to another (Weaver, Ball, Kim & Kiel, 2016). The
