Group Presentations or  “Podcasts”

Group Presentations or  “Podcasts”: Everyone will have been randomly placed into a group by the start of the semester; each group will provide one (1) “podcast” during the semester. The presentation/podcast will pertain to a specific issue in business ethics (insider trading, misuse of corporate resources, etc.–full list provided below). Each module will require one group to present/provide a “podcast.” No two groups will address the same issue; each module has a specific issue to be addressed (see each specific module for more details). 

Each podcast needs to be 10-15 minutes long. The prompt for the group presentation is as follows:

• (Task #1) Introduction (3min): This needs to be a very detailed explanation of the particular topic that your group chose. Offer a detailed definition, brief history  (this could include: court cases, media reception, etc.), and contemporary debates about the topic (of course, your case study should be mentioned in this section). What is the ethical issue that your group will be addressing? In what way does it pertain to business ethics? Why did your group choose this ethical issue? Which ethical theories will be applied? Which theory does the group think best analyzes the ethical issue? • (Task #2) Case Study (3min): Research a case study that pertains to your topic. The case study should be one that we have not covered in the course. Offer a brief description and summary of the case study that your group chose. Be sure to pin point the specific ethical issue (who is the perpetrator? Who is the victim? Of what were they a victim?). Assess the way in which “morals” are in conflict with “profits” or “professionalism.”
• (Task #3) Ethical Theory #1 (3 min): Apply the ethical theory addressed in the corresponding module. Research scholarly sources that have not been provided by the instructor. Be sure to cite your sources/information. Be sure to employ all of the relevant concepts that pertain to the ethical theory.
• (Task #4) Ethical Theory #2 (3 min): Apply one of the ethical theories that have been discussed in the course. Research scholarly sources that have not been provided by the instructor. Be sure to cite your sources/information. Be sure to employ all of the relevant concepts that pertain to the ethical theory.
• (Task #5) Ethical Theory #3 (3 min): Apply one of the ethical theories that have been discussed in the course. Research scholarly sources that have not been provided by the instructor. Be sure to cite your sources/information. Be sure to employ all of the relevant concepts that pertain to the ethical theory.
• (Task #6) Brief General Discussion (5-7 minutes): Engage in general discussion where you give your thoughts on the issue, theories, and outcomes. Which theory do you think best assesses the ethical issue in your case study? This portion of the podcast should be “free-flowing,” students should feel free to express their thoughts in whatever way they prefer, make jokes, what did you find confusing? Was the podcast helpful in understanding the ethical issue and the ethical theories? etc.
