300-400 words. You may write your responses as a list or in paragraph format. Do not overthink this. Just try to jot down some ideas from your research so that you have some notes to use when writing your first Rough Draft. 

• Review website of the company and see what kinds of information is included there about the them and type of work they do. What is their mission statement and what other kind of information do they include or exclude? What conclusions can you make about the company’s values from the information included on the website?
• Look for published material about the company in magazines, newspapers, and other online or print sources. What types of things has this company been in the news for? Philanthropy or scandal? What does this tell you about their values or what it might be like to work for this company?
• Look online at employee review websites (this is a good place to start: https://fairygodboss.com/career-topics/employer-review-sites-employee-reviews). Find friends, acquaintances, family members who know about the organization or the position and interview them if possible. What information can they provide that you were not able to find online?

First, read reading on “Investigation Reports”(Doc file 2)to help think about how to organize your own draft of your Report. Remember that you must include headings in your report.

Then,

Assignment 1: Report

Context: The main part of any business or workplace is shared values and working toward common goals. In this assignment, you will reflect on what you value the most in a company/organization and the kinds of goals you wish to achieve in your professional life. You will then research a specific company/organization you wish to work for and describe their values and goals.

Assignment: For this assignment, you must select a single company/organization you admire and/or wish to work at eventually once you graduate or once you have enough experience. Your purpose here is to research and see whether your own values and goals align with those of the company and whether this place will be a good fit for you.

Here’s what you will do:

Step 1 Brainstorming: Reflect and write down what you value as a person and the kind of workplace that would be ideal for you. Explain the goals you wish to achieve.

Step 2 Research: Select a company/organization that you would ideally like to work for once you graduate or once you have enough experience to hold a position there. Research the company and find as much information as you can about it. This can be through newspapers, blogs, employee review websites, personal connections (people you know who have or are still working there).

Here are a few places to help you get started:

• Review website of the company and see what kinds of information is included there about the them and type of work they do. Step 3 Drafting: Finally, write a Report detailing the following:

1. What your own values and goals are.
2. What are the values and goals of the company you researched.

(make sure you do cite the sources where you getting this information from, whichever sources you are making this conclusion from about what they value even if you are not directly citing them or quoting them, you do still have to to cite them in text citation)

• And how well do the values of the company align with your own. Would you be a good fit at this company? In other words, is the company a good fit for you?

Organize the report into sections with headings based on main things you will be discussing.

Your Report will be 500-600 words. You must use in-text citations and include a references page (not included in word count) to cite your sources used. You may use MLA or APA guidelines to cite your sources. Your sources must include the company website, and 2 additional sources such as newspapers, magazines, OR other online/print sources (interviews with friends/family are also an option).

Audience: As we’ve discussed in class, audience awareness is the most important aspect of beginning a writing task. For this assignment, your primary audience is me, the instructor of this class but it is also your peers because they will be providing you with feedback on your rough draft. Assume that we do not know what you value and we do not know much about the company you are researching. It is your job to make that clear to us through your report.
