Assignment 3: Proposal & Annotated Bibliography (2-3 pages) — This assignment asks you to begin the process of developing and writing a problem-based research paper. Based on the topic you have selected and your preliminary research, you will draft a proposal and annotated bibliography of your research topic. For this assignment, you may choose to develop an issue brought up in your visual analysis assignment, summary & synthesis assignment, or a new topic brought up in the Community Pool of Ideas from lesson 3.1. Proposal: Based on your research, a specific problem (i.e, question you want answered or resolved) should begin to emerge. The proposal should address the following points: Statement of the Problem – Identifies and justifies your research problem. What is wrong? What is unknown? How long has this been an issue? Whom does this issue affect? Research Completed – Describe what research you’ve already done on this problem. Remaining Research – Based upon the research that you’ve done, what research do you still need to do in order to complete the course’s final research-based essay? Your proposal should be about one page long, double-spaced. Annotated Bibliography: An annotated bibliography is a list of your sources, in bibliographic style (also called works cited) along with annotations. Using correct MLA citation and using the library resources, create a list of at least five sources that you have been working with in this unit and that you think you will be able to use for your final research-based essay. Sources should be from academic, peer-reviewed journals, but you can also include sources such as credible journals, magazine, editorials, films (such as documentaries), and other media. For this assignment, you’ll need to include at least five sources that have been evaluated as worthy of use. But keep track of all your research for use in the final research essay. After listing at least five sources in correct MLA format, you will also need to create annotations for your sources (Note that the OWL uses MLA version 8 and your textbook uses MLA version 7, which are very different in some ways. Either MLA version is fine to use in your work as long as you are consistent). Your annotations will serve three purposes that align with the guidelines on the Purdue OWL website (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/ ): (1) Summarize (2) Assess (3) Reflect
