A. Tuberculosis (TB) B. Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is found in every country around the world. Tuberculosis (TB) is spread from person to person through droplets in the air. While TB usually affects the lungs, it can also affect various parts of the body, such as bones, the brain, or the kidneys. TB can be lethal if not properly treated. While TB in humans can be traced back several thousand years to an ancient Mediterranean city off the coast of Israel and over 3,000 years ago to its earliest mention in literature it remains a
global pandemic and intense outbreaks continue to occur. ( Tuberculosis (TB) World Tb Day 2021 ,
2016) A recent 2019 TB outbreak was reported in a school in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Schoolchildren and teachers were infected. More than 30 cases of TB were reported in 2019, with ultimately 529 of the total students becoming infected with the disease. Tuberculosis is easily spread when individuals are in close quarters and close contact with infected individuals for extended periods especially if there is poor air ventilation and overcrowding. The extended cold periods and air pollution in Mongolia predispose the region to issues with poor air quality and ventilation in buildings is often decreased, especially in schools for younger children where they
spend considerable amounts of time together in close contact. ( Information on TB Outbreak; Press

An outbreak of Tuberculosis in my community would have a profound impact on local community systems. Schools would be closed for quarantines and disinfection, public services would be limited, public buildings would be closed or have dramatically decreased occupancy numbers to try and prevent the spread of disease. Hospitals would have an increased need for isolation rooms and personal protective equipment for staff. The state and county health departments would require increased staffing to adequately track and trace potentially infected persons.
