For this Assignment, you will write a 6-8 page paper discussing the developmental concerns and proposed interventions across four life stages using the case study provided. Use the readings from previous units and at least four academic sources from the Library.

Read the Case Study: Carlos

Carlos, a 63-year-old divorced male was self-referred to you through his Employee Assistance Program. He presents as a lonely and withdrawn older adult requesting assistance with what he describes as “life issues.” The purpose of this paper is for you to present a developmental conceptualization of a client over four developmental stages that explains individual growth using biological, social, psychosocial, cognitive, and environmental theories. For each of the four developmental stages, you are also asked to present suggestions for interventions that may have changed the developmental trajectory for the client.

Include the following in your paper:

• Explain the developmental concerns of adolescence using the theories and concepts learned involved in the case provided.
• Explain the developmental concerns of young adulthood using the theories and concepts learned involved in the case provided.
• Explain the developmental concerns of middle adulthood using the theories and concepts learned involved in the case provided.
• Explain the developmental concerns of late adulthood using the theories and concepts learned involved in the case provided.
• Design at least two interventions addressing the cognitive, biological, psycho-social, cultural, and environmental concerns at each stage in the case provided.

Case Study: Carlos Developmental Concerns

            The life of Carlos portrays a struggle to fit in society after experiencing personal and family conflicts since childhood. Profoundly, Carlos does not feel satisfied with life all along, which subjects him to emotional and psychological distress. His life is a depiction of constraints that accompanies a significant number of people in transition from childhood to adulthood. Indeed, the character traits portrayed by Carlos are dependent on the interaction with cognitive, environmental, psychological, social, and biological factors in various stages of development.

Developmental Concerns of Adolescence

            The first impression one gets after interacting with Carlos is that he lived a confused and lonely life as a teenager. Profoundly, Carlos describes his life as being surrounded by a mismatch in academics and sports when compared to his friends. At this point, Carlos experiences psychological changes that are dependent on physical and cognitive developments. In early adolescence, people tend to feel fear, confusion, and a sense of withdrawal (McNeely & Blanchard, 2010). Indeed, Carlos might have failed to fit in sports as a result of  delayed physical development or lack of some abilities possessed other boys.

            Following unsuccessful struggle to fit among the peers, Carlos started drinking over the weekends. This behavior arises since his brain is yet to be fully developed to address the depressing issues. Drinking is a risk-taking behavior profound among adolescents who are in transition to young adulthood (McNeely & Blanchard, 2010). Carlos is trying to identify a new lifestyle that would solve his psychological and social problems at school. Sadly, Carlos has lost hope on the capability to address both athletic and academic activities. Identifying low performance compared to peers implies that the capacity to think and intellectual interests are increasing.  Importantly, Carlos is blaming his parents for failure to secure job opportunities at high school and eventually engages in vandalizing of the school. At this point, Carlos confirms that peer connections increase at the adolescent age while commitment to parents declines (McNeely & Blanchard, 2010). At the high school level, Carlos is struggling to be independent by securing a job at McDonald’s but still blames his parents for underachievement in his expectations.

Developmental Concerns of Young Adulthood             Young adulthood is associated with high possibilities of choosing and exploring while at the same time encountering high risks of meeting educational and social requirements. Carlos is taking a new course of life to be in an intimate relationship with a lady 10-years his senior, who he describes as loving. Eventually, the marriage does not last since the woman perceives him as immature and one who lacks self-drive to achieve financial demands.
