Research the brand and product. How is it currently marketed or advertised? What’s the price? (Compare with other similar brands, products or stores that it’s sold in) Who is the competition? (What other brands/products did you see on the rack/shelf?) What attracted you to this brand/product above any of the competition? What’s the main benefit that your brand/product offers your target audience that no other brand can? Who is the target audience? (What sort of people buy the the product? Stereotypes are ok in this instance) Interview people, ask friends or do an online survey of your target audience and find out what’s important to them. You must provide the sources where you gathered your research from using proper APA citation. You can also gain first-hand knowledge by talking to friends, family or potential customers. The Objective:

State what you want your advertising campaign to achieve. What do you want people to do differently than they are currently doing now? The objective is always a verb
(ie. to raise awareness).

Target Audience: Segments

Segment the target audience into three groups:

What does the average target audience look like? Include visuals/phots of
your target audience and include appropriate APA citation if sourced from
the internet.

Demographics:

At a minimum include age range/age group, education level, geographic location, marital/family status, gender, occupation, income level and ethnicity.

Psychographics:

At a minimum include personalities, hobbies, attitudes, lifestyles, values, behaviors, interests and opinions.

The Tone and Manner:
With your future ad campaign in mind, what will be the style or personality
of the ad? What manner will you use to communicate the message? (This is not the form/medium)

The Main Message:
This is the most important thing that you want to communicate to your target audience. It must be a persuasive statement as your goal is to influence your target audience to do something which will help you to achieve your objective/goal. This can be thought of as the benefit or promise you want to deliver. (Must be written as one sentence which is very persuasive).
