The use medicinal marijuana also known as medicinal cannabis is a topic that has gained much national attention over the years as a result of controversies surrounding ethical, legal, and societal effects associated with its use; packaging, dispensing, and safe administration (Bridgeman & Abazia, 2017). Other concerns relate to health implications attributed to cannabis intoxication. According to WHO, cannabis is one of the most abused drug worldwide and its annual consumption rate is estimated to be 2.5% of the global population or nearly 147M individuals (Bridgeman & Abazia, 2017). General Marijuana use, both for medicinal and recreational purposes has gained increasing acceptance in recent years as evidenced by public opinion polls, ballot measures, and legislative actions. In the United States, the use of medicinal cannabis is approved in 28 states. Cannabis sativa plant is believed to have over 421 components and 60 pharmacologically active cannabinoids. The two cannabis-derived cannabinoids that has therapeutic purpose are cannabidiol (CBD) and THC. Other minor cannabinoids include cannabichromene, cannabigerol, and tetrahydrocannabivarin (Oberbarnscheidt & Miller, 2017). Cannabis is a highly lipophilic cannabinoid drug hence making it easy to be stored in adipose tissue, muscle, spleen and liver.
