ANSWER

Teamwork in Healthcare Organizations

Individuals from different professions rely on each other to reinforce their working abilities for a greater good. One person can never handle all the tasks alone to meet the targeted goal. Teams have to be made with each member having a specialized area to work on and deliver quality work. Individuals can only form a team and work together if they intend to meet the same goal (Bender, Connelly & Brown, 2013). Interprofessional collaboration in healthcare is defined as the act of multiple health workers from different medical sectors working together with patients to help deliver the best quality care. When several healthcare providers work together and share ideas, they are able to come up with the best treatment methods for the betterment of the society.

Characteristics of Effective Interprofessional Teams

For a medical professional’s team to be effective and achieve targeted goals, certain qualities have to be observed by all the members. First, all members of the team must be open to new ways of working and flexible enough to accommodate new ideas from their fellow counterparts. They must also be willing to share information to keep everyone in the light about the process they are undertaking. For instance, a healthcare provision team has to ensure the members are aware of the treatment process, expected outcomes and the efforts they all have to put in for success (Doherty & Crowley, 2013). The team has to possess a sense of mutual trust and support throughout the process. They must provide support to each other, both towards and away from the main course. An environment should be created where each member is free to share opinions and suggestions.

Equity and effective leadership are also crucial elements the team must possess for a successful outcome. Equity provides each member with equal opportunity to explore and give maximum output. A nurse gets a chance to suggest a perfect idea and experiment with different treatment processes which may be effective when given an opportunity. Effective leadership skills help keep the collaboration in line (Petri, 2010). A sense of direction is acquired and the targeted goal can be easily achieved.

Benefits of Interprofessional Teams Interprofessional teams help in the promotion of coordination across all the systems of health care. Health care providers from different sectors work together towards ensuring patients get better (Doherty & Crowley, 2013). Interprofessional…
