ANSWER

Step 1: Model of Nursing Care Identified

Nursing care models define how nurses deliver health care services. They specify the best services and practices that would best suit a group or individual as they progress through the various stages of injury, event, or condition (Martsolf et al., 2016). The nursing model observed, in this case, is the primary nursing model. In this approach, a single nurse is usually the point of contact acting as the primary caregiver during the patient’s hospital stay and other episodes of care in the facility.

Under this model, a nurse is assigned to be responsible for the patients during the entire duration of their hospital stay. The physician is responsible for performing the procedure once the patient is diagnosed (Dai Molin et al., 2018). After the procedure, event, or injury, the patient needs to have a primary care nurse with whom he or she can liaise with as the healing goes on. Therefore, the planning and implementation of care take place between the named nurse and the patient. The primary nurse is expected to be on duty and responsible 24 hours a day for the patient. An associate nurse is also assigned to make sure that the patient’s care is maintained when the primary nurse is off duty.

Step 2: Review and Summaryof a Scholarly Resource

The primary care nursing model aims to create a better bond and trust relationship between caregivers and patients. Research shows that the patient’s care tends to be elevated as the primary nurse oversees health care delivery (Dai Molin et al., 2018). The model also allows the nurse to develop and utilize their managerial skills by giving the best possible bedside care. However, it is not a secure and easy system to organize for several reasons. The first reason is that nurses involved in the model must have strong interpersonal skills and show empathy for their patients (Martsolf et al., 2016). Secondly, if the facility has to deal with large patient loads and nurse shortages, it may be challenging to implement this model.

Step 3: Review and Summary of a Scholarly Resource Another delivery model observed in the practice setting is the functional nursing model. This model is task-oriented and makes use of different nursing personnel for efficiency. A particular task is assigned to each worker, making the system more efficient, while ensuring that the patient’s care is accomplished in the least amount of time possible (Martsolf et al., 2016).
