Write My Essay For Me

Dealing with conflicts is a normal part of any organization, especially when it comes to a hospital setting (Finkelman, 2016). Identifying the stages of conflict and the best strategies to deal with them is a crucial aspect of leadership, which helps ensure that everything runs as expected in the organization. Resolving conflict also helps create teams that can work well together despite their differences.

Conflict Situation

A recurring conflict that has the potential to impact patients care negatively in my place of work entails lack of professional commitment and respect among most of the staff members. This happens as a result of the management promoting some of the newer staff members. While the management deemed the promotions rightful, most of those who have been passed over remain quite upset with the decision made. In turn, the situation results in decreased work morale and commitment from the offended nurses, which require the other nurses to pick up the slack; therefore, forcing them to do more than they can handle. Everything in the hospital tend to suffer, especially the patients, since they can hardly receive the care they deserve. The negative effect is quite evident not only among the nurses but the hospital’s patients as well. Dealing with the issue is critical to allow the proper functioning of the hospital and its staff members.

Four Stages of Conflict

Since conflict is a normal part of life and the workplace, taking the time to understand the different stages of a dispute allows one to handle these problematic scenarios better whenever they arise (Finkelman, 2016). It is also essential to stay calm, professional, and courteous when handling any conflicts that arise among the workers in the hospital (Curcija, Breakey & Driml, 2019). The four stages of dispute include the latent phase, the perceived stage, the felt stage, and the manifest stage.

In the latent stage of the conflict, the dispute exists, but it has not yet developed. Hence, very few people are aware of the conflict, while those who may be aware of it may be choosing to ignore it while hoping that it will resolve itself (Finkelman, 2016). The development of the conflict at this stage is dependent on the emotions of the individuals involved. If they behave irrationally, the conflict tends to escalate and may even result in violence. At this stage, only the wronged party, feels offended while the second party is oblivious of the situation.

The conflict experienced in my place of work is at its latent stage, whereby some of the nurses fail to respect their younger seniors. While the conflict amongst the nurses is not apparent or widely known, the contention to the advancement provide the potential for conflict. The nurses who believe they should have been promoted feel disrespected by the management, leadership, and the other nurses in the organization.

The second stage of conflict is the perceived stage. At this point, the parties involved in the conflict are now fully aware of what is happening (Curcija et al., 2019). After both feuding parties realize the cause of the conflict, the upset party takes the time to explain what is wrong and how the scenario can be corrected to suit them and prevent the conflict from escalating. At this level, the hospital’s management should take time to understand the argument formed by the aggrieved party. Understanding the reasons as to why they believe they should have received the promotion is a critical aspect of this stage. Also, at this point, the upset party should explain to the other nurses why they believe their….
