Weekly Topic Assignment #6 Lead-in:

Recall that the CEO of Goodride Tires developed a personal interest in employee engagement. The CEO understood that employee engagement is a multifaceted concept. That is, the CEO sees that multiple factors influence employee engagement. One key factor is the management style within Goodride Tires. Recall, the CEO wanted to move towards a participatory management style. The sources the CEO read suggested that a participatory management style improves employees’ engagement, which emerges from a High-Performance Work Systems (HPWS).

Another key factor that increases employees’ engagement is the HR Strategies developed by HRM. Specific HR Strategies will advance the competencies and performance of managers, supervisors, and front-line employees.

The CEO directed that an Overall HR Strategy of High-Involvement Management be implemented in the Production Department. The CEO envisioned that a High-performance Work Systems (HPWS) in the Productions Department would improve productivity and quality. However, the CEO views an essential part of an HPWS is employee involvement. Employee involvement is the aim of the Overall HR Strategy of High-Involvement Management.

The aim of an Overall HR Strategy of High-Involvement Management is to increase employee involvement in job-related decision-making and to equip employees with the competencies and autonomy to identify improvements of processes within the Production Department. Additionally, an Overall HR Strategy of High-Involvement Management supports an HPWS. Benson et al. (2006) stated that “High-involvement work practices are a specific set of human resource practices that focus on employee decision-making, power, access to information, training and incentives” (as cited in Armstrong, 2021, p. 84).
