Introduction

Older adults are faced with numerous health issues creating a concern for the management of their healthcare needs. The provision of healthcare services to this group is demanding, and collaborations between family members and hospitals should be used to advance their healthcare. The understanding of their healthcare needs and how it can be managed is of the essence to healthcare providers. The old are a special group in the population whose healthcare needs should be adequately managed to enhance their quality of life. As people grow old, they tend to develop numerous complications that affect the quality of life. The provision of health services and care to this group is critical since some concerns must be addressed on this critical issue. Different authors have engaged in research intending to identify a holistic approach to managing healthcare needs for the aging population.

Some of the findings from the studies have been implemented, and the outcome has seen the development of programs in nursing facilities and home-based care that improve the lives of the elderly. Tkatch et al. (2016) reflected on the management of healthcare among healthy adults and pointed out that there is a growing population of older adults, which necessitates the need to plan for their healthcare. Population health management is a strategy identified for managing the health needs of the aging group. The author points out the need to expand the research to identify new interventions that can help to manage the healthcare needs of this population. There is a need to expand research on the management of the healthcare needs of the elderly. The modern research frameworks require researchers to first establish a solid foundation of knowledge on a given topic and relating it to the issue under study. The literature review is essential for any research study for two reasons. The main reason is that it provides a solid background of understanding an issue and what other researchers established in the research (El Hussein, Kennedy & Oliver, 2017). A researcher should be able to look into the work of other researchers and develop a foundation for their research. In any research, the understanding of the issue helps in restarting what is already known and sets the stage for analyzing what is unknown about the topic. The literature review allows the researcher to select relevant and authentic sources which can be used as sources of reference. The views of different researchers help identify the missing links that should be explored in the research.

The literature review is also used in research to support the topic under study. Research should be based on developing new knowledge or analyzing an issue in society. The literature review is used to critique the works of other authors by identifying the gaps in their research (Booth, Sutton & Papaioannou, 2016). The new research should seek to fill the gaps in past research and develop new knowledge on a broader issue. The researcher critiques the work of author authors, identifying ethical issues that must be addressed in another research.

It is through the literature review that the researcher outlines the claims of their new research and how past studies can be used as a basis of understanding the issue from a broad perspective. The sources used in the literature review indicates the inclination of the research and the methods of research to be used by the researcher in the new research (Booth, Sutton & Papaioannou, 2016). The literature review is crucial in research since it guides the researcher on how to undertake research and what steps to take in developing new knowledge on the subject under study.

Ethical Considerations for Data Collection

Data collection is an important aspect of research since it allows the researcher to interact with the population under study. Depending on the nature of the research, different methods can be used to collect data. The process of data collection means that researchers interact with different people, and certain order must be observed. Numerous ethical considerations should be followed when conducting research.

The main consideration is informed and seeking permission from the participant (Peter, 2015). It is unethical to collect data without seeking the permission of the participants. The researcher should seek consent by informing the participants why they have been selected to participate in the research. The consent should clarify why the research is conducted and the potential benefits of the research. It is appropriate to familiarize oneself with the participants as well as disclose personal information that could help the participants to know the researcher.

The other ethical consideration is for the researcher to remain neutral and unbiased when collecting research. There are cases when the researcher can have a misconception regarding a given group. It is important to remain neutral to avoid situations of being biased and collecting data that might not be representative. The researcher should protect the privacy and confidentiality of information shared by the participant (Ellis-Barton, 2016). Data collection involves interactions with the participants. In medical research, personal and confidential information of the participant should be safeguarded by all means. The researcher must maintain this confidentiality. The researcher should be mindful and respectful of time (Ellis-Barton, 2016).

In cases where one schedules meetings with participants and fails, it is appropriate to apologize and compensate for the time lost. The researcher must protect the participants by minimizing potential harm (Peter, 2015). It is appropriate to collect data without harming the participants. Besides, informing the participants of potential harm can help prevent incidences of accidents. At the end of the research, it is ethical to share the findings of the study with the participants. Statistical Analysis

The data collected in the research must be analyzed to establish findings. These findings can then be used to make conclusions and recommendations for the study. The data analysis part of the research relies on statistical analysis. The data that is collected in research determines the statistical methods to be used. Research can either be qualitative and quantitative. In both cases, both descriptive and inferential statistics can be used for data analysis. In some cases, inferential statistics are used for analysis where more than two variables are compared. The statistical analysis method used in research reveals different things regarding the data.

The data can reveal the relationships between the variable in research. When regression analysis is used for analysis, the researcher is on the lookout of establishing the relationship of data and how they impact one another. The analysis looks at the control variable and how it can be adjusted to give desirable results to the researcher. The regression analysis has other methods of analysis that can be integrated to give a better analysis of the data under study (Agresti, 2018). The relationship of data and how it affects the phenomenon under study is what can be revealed by the statistical analysis. The other thing that is revealed in the statistical analysis is the accuracy of data collection and other sections of the research.

The choice of analyzing data is first established even before data is collected (Agresti, 2018). The outcome of the analysis reveals if the data was collected accurately and whether all the laid down procedures were followed to the later. Data analysis reveals the quality of other sections of the research and how it contributes to the overall success of the research. The evaluation of the research study is crucial in making conclusions that can be used in future research. The criteria for evaluating research should be based on the information it contains. The questions developed in the research develops a conceptual framework which allows the researcher to proceed with research activities. The information contained in the research should be able to fill the gaps in previous research. It should contain new knowledge and insights regarding a topic which can be used for future research.
