For relationships to thrive, there has to be a mutual understanding and respect between the parties involved. People owe each other honesty, respect and truthfulness if the relationship has to achieve the required success. Besides, there is need for righteous intensions which can help to neutralize errors that are bound to occur in a relationship. The Bible or Christian-based approach given by Schultze and Badzinski argues that conversations need to be founded on the Christian values that are defined by being relational and making arguments not necessarily from a personal perspective but rather from the other person’s point of view with the implications in mind. If a conversation is bound to lead to negative outcomes, then the talker should invoke self-conscience and retract sentiments that may lead to such negative outcomes. Talking processes also need to be balanced with rational harmony.

Reflection Paper: Communication Patterns Assignment

From a personal experience, each person has on one occasion or another failed to be an effective reporter hence conveying the wrong information to the target audience. As Schultze & Badzinksi 2015 puts it, often people fail to be faithful communicators as they wrongly assume the absence of the Holy Spirit. From the Christian perspective, all human communication ought to be guided by the Holy Spirit which not only gives the power for utterances but also the ability to discern what is right and wrong in a communication. It is my understanding that if we are clear and transparent in the manner in which we convey information, it is possible that the audience for which the message is directed will take it positively and react in the manner in which we intend them to react. On the contrary, if the target audience doesn’t have confidence in the person conveying the message, they will not take the message itself with the seriousness it deserves. Besides, trust forms the foundation for honest conversations and positive interpretation of the message being conveyed. One area that requires honest communication from the communicator is in the working setting. It is desirable that those working in an organization understand the value of trust and meaningful conversation. Whether the communication is implemented vertically or horizontally, honesty and trust should form the basis of every communication. Proper communication especially from the sender of information gives the recipients a feeling of belonging, a sense of being valued and respected (Petersen, 2015). On the contrary, when information from the sender is deemed to be packaged with lies, the parties involved eventually lose confidence in not only the sender but also the message itself. Besides, lies eventually destroys the interpersonal relationships that need to form the hallmark of better exchange of information.

Reflection Paper: The Role of Talker Assignment

The use of a Talker-listener card is a better way to ensure smooth communication especially if there is communication difficulties from one or both sides in the conversation. The role of the card is to moderate the conversation by deciding on who speaks first such that when the next speaker takes the position, the first one listens and fully participates in the conversation. Turn taking is a fundamental process in any communication as it ensures that the parties involved have equal chance and time to engage and that the talker doesn’t make any predetermined decisions in the conversation process. This approach allows not only proper talking but also develops a person’s listening skills. Turn-taking ensures that messages from both parties are conveyed and responded to in an efficient manner. It allows the messages from both the sender and recipient of the information to understand and interpret whatever that is being communicated in the best way possible.

Reflection Paper: Therapeutic Communication Assignment

Conversations are at times determined by a person’s personality. We inherit may traits from parents who are God-given and cannot be changed. However, the environment can play an important role in shaping a person’s way of communicating or passing the message. From a personal point of view, it was interesting to grow up in a Christian family. My parents instilled in us key traits that help improve the communication process. One key thing we learned is the importance of being a good listener and in ensuring that we take keen interest in what another person is saying. I was taught to always be positive and demonstrate confidence while talking to people. The word of God has been a source of strength and wisdom when it comes to talking to other people and especially the elderly. Using the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness”, Schuiltz & Badzinski (2015) argued that demonstrate the importance of always using encouraging words when trying to not only get attention from the recipient of the information but also demonstrating the value that is in the information. As a communicator, it is important to create a good environment where the recipients of the information will appreciate the message being sent their way.

In conclusion, the ability to communicate effectively is also defined by a person’s ability to be an effective listener. It would not be feasible to be a good communicator without being a good listener. The two are intertwined and can collectively be termed as the art of communication and in any communication, we ought to do so for the love and glory of God.
