In women, symptoms are often mild and mistaken for a vaginal infection. Syphilis can be cured with antibiotics.

Herpes are caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). These viruses prompt the development of open sores on the genitals which serve as the basis for the transmission of the disease. Although there is no cure for herpes, the number of outbreaks that occur typically diminishes over time.
