According to the evolutionary senescence theory of aging, there are various factors that affect the aging rate of living things; however, this theory capitalizes on the failure of natural selection to impact late-life traits (Kadlec et al., 2011). Since natural selection operates through reproduction, it has minimal effect on later life. For instance, among the animals living in wild where accidents and predation are a common occurrence, it is common to find young individual reproducing more than the old one (Kadlec et al., 2011). Thus, based on the evolutionary senescence theory of aging, the following goals and objectives for the practicum experience with consideration to geriatric competencies are developed in this paper.

Goal 1: will be able to effectively handle medication management.

Objectives 

a.     By week 2, will be able to explain and discuss the age-associated changes in dose and drug selection based on the knowledge of age-related changes in hepatic and renal functioning central nervous system, and body composition.

b.    By week 4 will be able to identify medication such as cardiovascular drugs, hypoglycemic, analgesic, anticoagulant, psychoactive, and anticholinergic that can be used with caution or avoided among the older adults and explain the potential challenges that are associated with these drugs (Elsawy & Higgins, 2018).
