Aim of Unit 10 Safeguarding in health and social care

The aim of this unit is to understand the abuses that could occur in a community and create approaches to prevent it. Focus would be stretched upon various factors that lead to abuses made within a community. The entire study would be guided by various legislative regulations and policies. This would result in figuring out the guidelines and standards of professions within which individuals work. All these legislative regulations and policies are formed for minimizing the abusive nature of the community. Lastly the professionals of health and social care take various approaches and strategies to implement these policies and reduce abuses within a community.

LO1 Understand the factors that contribute to the incidence of abuse and harm to self and others

There are different factors which lead in creating abuses within the community. Physical, financial, sexual, mental abuses firm situations of tensions within a community. There are also different kinds of harms that affect self. Self harm includes in taking of alcohol and drugs. The exposure to attack is more with the young people, children and individuals with disabilities. Abuses affect greatly in the mental conditions of individuals. Confidence level goes down along with continuous abuses from community. Abuses may get originated from family, relationships, domestic violence. There are also many social factors which lead to abuses such as poverty, exclusion in society, supporting networks. There are also various cultural factors like religions, discriminations and ethnicity which results in abuses.

LO2 Understand current legislation, policy and professional involvement regarding abuse in health and social care contexts

In order to mitigate the issue of abuses several legislations and policies have into consideration. Standards in professions, rights of individuals and various nation policies determine types of abuses and help in prevention. The health and social care professionals help in prevention of abuse for children. Staffs who work on social note and other professionals of health come into action to prevent these abuses. Apart from that the “National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children” also serves to protect abuses within a community.

LO3 Understand working practice and strategies used to minimise abuse in health and social care contexts

Understanding the strategies which work for prevention of abuses is a very important part. Communication regarding abuses could be made by means of oral and written basis. Apart from that there are various practices like anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory which help in protecting abuses. Risk factors are also taken into account for implementing those strategies and getting results from those strategies. Strategies would only work if the process of decision making, proper organizational policies are being followed. Apart from these strategies register for risk, forums for abuses, and training could be implemented for protection from abuses.
